Dr. Brian Barbara began his medical journey at Louisiana State University, where he majored in Kinesiology. He continued his education at William Carey University, earning a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. His commitment to internal medicine led him to serve as a resident at LSU, where he honed his skills and knowledge.
Dr. Barbara has contributed to medical literature with two notable academic publications. The first, "A Case of Paraneoplastic Myasthenia Gravis Secondary to Squamous Cell Carcinoma," was published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine in 2021. The second, "Severe Generalized Myositis after COVID-19," reflects his engagement with contemporary medical issues.
In addition to his scholarly achievements, Dr. Barbara has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving healthcare delivery. His involvement in quality improvement projects, such as reducing ED throughput admission times and optimizing discharge processes, showcases his dedication to enhancing patient care.
Beyond the hospital walls, Dr. Barbara is deeply engaged in community service. His participation as a Be the Match stem cell donor, involvement in HEENT exams for second-year medical students, provision of physicals for Biloxi High School, and numerous mission trips underscore his commitment to holistic healthcare and community well-being.
Dr. Barbara also specializes in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), employing noninvasive techniques such as stretching and gentle pressure to assess and enhance the body's range of motion.
